Dental Health

We strive to ensure each of our patients receives the best treatments available. When a problem arises, we work with our patients in order to provide them with a treatment plan.

Tooth Colored Fillings

When a tooth has decay, the decay is removed and a filling is put in its place. At one time, fillings were made of mercury. Now, tooth colored fillings are used. Tooth colored fillings are not noticeable to others.

It is important for patients to visit the dentist immediately if they have tooth pain or other signs of decay. When found immediately, the decay can be removed and tooth colored fillings can be put in. However, if the problem is not discovered in a timely fashion, a tooth extraction or root canal may be required. We offer root canal and tooth extraction services for those who have severe decay.

X-Rays

X-rays play an important role in the diagnostic process, and they are typically needed before a diagnosis is made. The X-ray provides us with an image of your tooth structure. With this helpful tool, we can find infections and identify problems that are not visible to the naked eye.

Our office uses digital radiography. This technology emits 50-70% less radiation than conventional methods. In addition, we use computer monitoring in order to enhance the images.

Bonding

Bonding is used to repair teeth and improve the aesthetics of the mouth. Bonding involves using a composite resin in order to bond teeth together. The resin is attached to the front of teeth. In the process, gaps are filled. The gaps can be natural, or they can be caused from decay. Bonding can also be used to make teeth look as if they are perfectly aligned.

Bonding begins by roughing the surface of the teeth so it will accept the bonding material. After the surface is roughened, a gel is applied to the teeth to micro etch the surface and a bonding agent is placed on the teeth so the composite resin will adhere to the surface. At that point, the composite resin is placed on the teeth. It is hardened with intense light. Then, the dentist will shape and polish the composite resin so it will blend in with the rest of the teeth. The end result is a look that matches the rest of the mouth.

Sealants

Sealants are an option for those who have deep grooves in their teeth. When teeth have deep grooves, it is difficult for people to adequately clean their teeth. Over time, cavities can appear due to inadequate brushing. A sealant can be applied to the teeth in order to keep food and bacteria from falling into the grooves. This makes it easier for people to maintain their dental health.

Non Surgical Gum Treatments

The periodontium (gums, ligaments and gums around the teeth) is the foundation of the teeth, and thus it must be properly cared for. When something is wrong with the periodontium, the entire mouth will suffer. There are many signs that something is wrong with the periodontium. These problems are commonly referred to as gum disease and the symptoms are:

  • Gums that are red
  • Gums that bleed easily
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Gums that are pulled away from the tooth
  • Loose teeth
  • Changes in the position or bite of the teeth

When patients experience one or more of these problems, our dentists work to restore the mouth. In many cases, gum disease can be reversed. Those who have symptoms will likely be treated with a deep cleaning or root planning.

The procedure is done under local anesthetic. The dentist will clean out from under the gums. Plaque and bacteria can settle below the gum line, and when that happens, gum disease can occur. After the procedure, the patient will likely be placed on antibiotics.

In some cases, a deep cleaning will not reverse gum disease. In more severe cases, the dentist may have to use surgery. There are some patients that will have to undergo tooth extraction in order to eliminate gum disease.
